I see more and more commercial fishing ships leave the harbor and motor north from Marmot Bay as spring very slowly comes to Kodiak. I love watching them go by. There have been boats fishing this winter. Trawling and seine net for herring, trawling for shrimp, dredging for scallops, jigging for cod and potting for rockfish. Supposedly they are also diving for sea cucumber, but I have not seen any in the stores. Maybe one to three boats a day this winter, but now it is in the teens. I wonder what it will be like when the salmon run? A hundred plus boats? We have all five spices of salmon here on the island. So many when they run that I hear people just throw the pinks back. My endeavor to get to know small scale fishermen so I can buy direct from them hasn't got off the ground yet. I am going to contact this guy in the vid >

I will soon be deleting this site. It is time for other adventures in life. I would like to thank all who came by and said hello. I wish you all the very best.
