The king of outside, as well as a beautiful inside player and accompanist . Always displaying impeccable intonation and that beautiful dark tone, untouchable technique, and deep intelligence. A true gentlemen.
Dave Holland has paid almost every kind of due imaginable for a modern jazz musician. From Miles Davis to John McLaughlin to Chick Corea to Vassar Clements to Herbie Hancock to Pat Metheny and beyond.
Today's offering is the Dave Holland Quintet "How's Never" (Belgium, 2009)
Dave Holland - bass
Robin Eubanks - trombone
Chris Potter - saxophones
Steve Nelson - vibraphone
Nate Smith - drums
What a band. Each of these musicians on their own are among the best at their instruments. And they caught a huge wave here. Nate Smith is among my favorite drummers. So good when Steve Nelson catches the first hit at the end of Nate's solo and he hollers, having not expecting him to come in there at all. That's the stuff right there. 12:35 ish
I will soon be deleting this site. It is time for other adventures in life. I would like to thank all who came by and said hello. I wish you all the very best.
