My scheduled appointment was at 9:30am for a meet and greet to decide face to face if we were a good fit, after written correspondence between us the prior week . My appointment started promptly at 9:30am. I was there for two hours.
He wanted to get to know me as a person, and he asked broad, far ranging questions which required detailed and, at times, long answers. I asked similar questions of him. I found him open, generous, clear about boundaries, skilled and very excited about medicine, his patients and his practice.
I was in a residential house (zoned commercial), with no waiting room, no receptionist, no nurses, very minimal paperwork, and the doctor's full attention for the duration. A far cry from the usual 8-12 minutes of face time on one issue, and one issue alone, with my prior corporate primary care provider. At the end of the appointment we decided we were a good fit and I joined his practice.
I meet my surgeon tomorrow to repair my hernia, so I go back into corporate medicine for that leg of my journey (which I will report on). It will be interesting how DPC and corporate medicine get along with each other. My new doc seemed quite confident it would not be an issue based on his prior experience.
I will soon be deleting this site. It is time for other adventures in life. I would like to thank all who came by and said hello. I wish you all the very best.
